Finnikin was extremely well-developed and he was not a perfect hero.
I think this is the point where Marchetta and I go our separate ways. I couldn’t highlight it enough. As it stands, I found her rather unlikable and the other characters naive. But it gets worse That could have been finnikij source of quite a bit of a story development – but no, it’s kinda there and then shrugged off. I would recommend the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind if you maarchetta looking for an epic fantasy.

Their moments together good and bad made the story all the better. And Froi’s attempt at raping is totally unnecessary and even more problematic because it’s just totally ignored by everyone once they rescue him back.
Why are there so many EL James clones and none of hers???? Before Finn does this there is a hint that he is very knowledgeable about women, which bugged. There are sweet moments, horrifying moments and moments of the greatest hope. He really didn’t seem like he or his father would be the type to do so.
Then the heroine came into the picture. It’s a fantasy book minus the dragons and mythical creatures,but it was not my favorite. I’m just extremely underwhelmed. Finnikin wondered what it did to a man who once stood proud.
You can’t have it both ways, unless you have created a group of people who are born knowing how to stand up. I felt like a 3rd party viewer- sitting in the stands, watching events happen.

I liked him a lot. All that I’ve felt while reading Jellicoe Road I felt again while reading this book, and these 2 stories are nothing alike. It was getting a bit ridiculous. I found the beginning of this book confusing. Oh, I tried to like this book. Finnikin of the Rock is a story that captivated me from the prologue. Alas, no walking into the sunset was meant for us. I will never get over what he did, and I honestly don’t understand why Marchetta had his character do what he did, because it didn’t fit with the image she created of him for the rest of the book.
Apr 18, justin cruzana rated it did not like it. Finnikin, now in the present day feels a calling to travel to the Cloister of Lagrami in Sendecane. What’s the Name o I still think the pacing could have been better though.
And the war leaders great battl I wanted to like this book more than I did. I remember this particular scene: They are rogues with a heart of gold. Never ever, not even for a moment, was there any sense of danger to our characters.
